Piano practice and church choirs shaped Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, who performs as Mayorkun. Born in Osun state and raised in Lagos, he is the eldest of three to actress Toyin Adewale-Gabriel and producer Sunday Adewale. After attending Living-Spring Montessori and Hi-Grade College, he earned an Accounting degree from the University of Lagos and briefly worked in banking. In 2016, a piano cover of Davido’s “The Money” went viral; Davido signed him to DMW, and his debut single “Eleko” followed. His 2018 album "The Mayor of Lagos" brought chart recognition and awards. In 2021, he moved to Sony Music West Africa, released "Back in Office," and issued the "Love..For Free" EP in 2023. Known for energetic stagecraft and a sharp sense of style, Mayorkun balances commercial success, endorsements, and a private family life with his wife, Arifath Akifewa, in Lagos.
