Mbira

Mbira music originated in Zimbabwe over 1,000 years ago among the Shona people, centered on the mbira instrument with metal keys attached to a wooden board. The genre features interlocking melodic patterns, polyrhythmic cycles, and spiritual significance in traditional ceremonies and healing rituals. Mbira creates hypnotic, meditative soundscapes combining ancestral voices with contemporary interpretations, influencing modern Zimbabwean music including Chimurenga.
