Ogene

Ogene originated in Nigerian Igbo communities across Enugu, Owerri, and Onitsha, centered on the ogene metal gong instrument. The traditional genre features interlocking syncopated rhythms performed by multiple ogene players, accompanied by okpokolo, oja flutes, ichaka rattles, and udu drums. Ogene serves ceremonial purposes at Igbo weddings, funerals, and gatherings, with contemporary artists like Flavour and Umu Obiligbo integrating its rhythms into modern Afro-pop.
