Journey
Michael Babatunde Adeyinka, known as DJ Tunez, is a pioneering Nigerian-American disc jockey and producer who bridged the gap between African music and the global diaspora. Raised in South Brooklyn, New York, he discovered his passion for music while DJing Christmas parties and weddings for his local church community. His ability to blend traditional Yoruba rhythms with hip-hop and dancehall quickly made him a staple of the New York nightlife scene, where he founded the highly successful Blackout concert series in 2012.
His career reached a turning point in 2015 when he was invited by Wizkid to join Starboy Entertainment. As the label's official DJ, Tunez became a vital architect of the "Starboy sound," providing the sonic backbone for Wizkid’s record-breaking world tours and stadium performances. He expanded his influence in 2016 with the release of "Iskaba," a massive collaboration with Wande Coal that earned him the Best African DJ (USA) award at the AFRIMMA ceremony.
Over the last decade, Tunez has evolved from a curator into an elite producer. His discography includes era-defining tracks such as "Pami," "Cool Me Down," and the "Apala Disco" remix. By 2026, he continues to lead the genre’s evolution, reaching over 3.5 million monthly listeners on streaming platforms and releasing fresh projects like "Stingy" and "South Gidi." Known for his unwavering loyalty to his label and his "Trust the DJ" philosophy, Tunez remains an indispensable figure in the internationalization of Afrobeats.
