Njelic, (fka Nje Nje) born Tshwarelo Albert Motlhako in Soweto, South Africa, is a pioneering Amapiano DJ, producer, and vocalist known for his influential role in the genre’s rise. He began performing in 2001 at his mother’s shebeen, developing a deep understanding of township rhythms and cultivating the stage presence that would define his career. Initially performing as Nje Nje, he later adopted the stage name Njelic, under which he became a key figure in South Africa’s Amapiano movement.
His breakthrough came in 2019 with "Shesha Geza," a collaboration with De Mthuda that became a defining track of the year. That same year, he worked with Kabza De Small on Nana Thula, a personal and acclaimed Amapiano release. Njelic’s 2020 debut album, "Garage FM," showcased his gospel-tinged vocals and versatility, while "The Doctor’s Laboratory" (2024) and other collaborations with Boohle, Simmy, and Mkeyz cemented his influence.
Beyond recordings, he curated the 2023 Boiler Room Soweto edition, highlighting township Amapiano on an international stage. Today, Njelic continues to release music, perform globally, and mentor emerging artists, maintaining a central role in the evolution of Amapiano.
