The journey of Thuthuka Zindlovu, known to the world as Dlala Thukzin, is a masterclass in genre-bending innovation. Growing up in the percussive-heavy environment of Durban, Thukzin initially honed his skills as a producer for the city's elite Gqom artists. However, he sought to create a sound that was more versatile something that carried the "thump" of the streets but the "polish" of international dance floors. This led to the birth of 3 Step, a genre characterized by its unique triple-beat timing and atmospheric synths.
His rise to the top was accelerated by the Permanent Music series (Volumes 1, 2, and 3), which produced influential hits like "Phuze" and "Naba Laba." However, it was the 2023 release of "iPlan" alongside Zaba and Sykes that transformed him into a household name, breaking streaming records across South Africa. This success allowed him to launch the Finally Famous project in late 2024, which featured a more mature, experimental sound.
By 2026, Dlala Thukzin has successfully transitioned from a producer to a global lifestyle brand. His 2025 album, The 3 Step King, and his 2026 international tour have introduced his Durban-born sound to festivals in London, Ibiza, and Miami. As the head of Dlala Records, he is also focused on mentoring the next generation of producers. Today, Zindlovu stands as one of the most bankable and respected figures in the industry, proving that South African house music has no boundaries.
