Arno Carstens is a platinum-selling, award-winning South African singer-songwriter and fine artist. Born in Cape Town in 1972, he introduced audiences to a diverse blend of genres, including punk, ska, metal, and funk, making him widely regarded as a key figure in South African rock music.
His career took off in the 1990s as the frontman for the influential rock band The Springbok Nude Girls, known for their high-energy stage shows. The band released multiple acclaimed albums and won numerous South African Music Awards (SAMAs).
Carstens launched his successful solo career in 2003 with the album "Another Universe," which won a SAMA for Best Rock Album. He has since released several other albums in both English and Afrikaans, including the SAMA-winning "The Hello Goodbye Boys" and the heritage-focused "Die Aandblom 13." His solo work has cemented his status as a versatile and prolific artist, earning him five SAMAs.
Besides his music, Carstens is a celebrated fine artist who works primarily with oils on canvas. He took a break from touring in 2007 to focus on painting and held his first solo art exhibition in 2012. He sells his artwork internationally, and it explores themes of human existence with a mix of humor and cynicism. Carstens is a true creative polymath.
