Propelled by a viral dance challenge showcasing her South African choreography, the track peaked in the top ten of charts worldwide, including the US Billboard Hot 100. The feat made her the first South African soloist to enter the US charts in 55 years. In February 2024, "Water" earned Tyla the inaugural Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance, making her the youngest African artist to win a Grammy.
