Journey
Before audiences knew her name, they already knew her voice powerful, soulful, and impossible to ignore. That voice belongs to Gnakrou Josée Priscille, born 29 June 1989 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, and celebrated globally as Josey.
Josey’s journey began in the church at just eight years old, where she first discovered her ability to move people through song. As a teenager, she pushed her boundaries further, joining the rap collective 40T’N while pursuing her studies. Later, she enrolled at the École Nationale d’Administration to study public administration, but music remained her true calling.
Her breakthrough came in 2012 when she won second place in the Castel Live Opera competition, impressing with her cover of Delta Groupe’s Sapiou. From that moment, her career soared. She released a string of defining singles including On Fait Rien Avec Ça (2014), Koba with DJ Arafat, Diplôme (2015), You Galoh (2016), Nagniouma, Jour J-0, La Vérité featuring 2Boyz, Espoir (2020), Ma moitié, and the 2023 hit Tout laisse.
Her albums and projects Cocktail (2021), Phoenix EP (2022), and Vibration Universelle (2024) reveal a versatile artist fluent in coupé-décalé, afro-zouk, R&B, rumba, and afro-folk. Through them, Josey tells stories of love, hope, resilience, and cultural pride.
Recognition followed quickly. She earned Best Female Artist of Côte d’Ivoire at the Jayli Awards 2023, before sweeping Best Ivorian Female Artist, Best Artist of West Africa, and Song of the Year in 2024 for Tout laisse. In 2025, she was crowned Best Francophone Female Artist at the prestigious Trace Awards.
Josey today stands as one of Africa’s most distinctive voices blending power, heart, and artistry into every note.
