Journey
Jackline Acheampong, known professionally as Gyakie, is a Ghanaian singer-songwriter whose soulful sound bridges Afro-fusion, R&B, and Highlife. Born and raised in Kumasi, she grew up surrounded by music her father is the legendary highlife musician Nana Acheampong of the Lumba Brothers. From the age of eight, she was exposed to recording sessions, unknowingly laying the foundation for her own artistry.
Despite her musical background, Gyakie initially focused on academics, studying International Business at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. But music eventually became her calling. In 2019, she released her debut single “Love Is Pretty”, followed by “Never Like This,” which began to carve her path in Ghana’s music scene.
Her breakthrough arrived in August 2020 with the release of her debut EP, Seed. The project’s standout track, “Forever,” resonated deeply with listeners across Africa and beyond, topping Billboard’s Top Triller Global chart and dominating airplay in Ghana, Nigeria, and Kenya. A remix of the song featuring Nigerian artist Omah Lay in 2021 further elevated her profile, going platinum in South Africa and securing her place as one of Africa’s most exciting young voices.
Gyakie’s success has been recognized with multiple awards, including Emerging Woman of the Year at the 2021 3Music Women’s Brunch and both Woman of the Year and International Collaboration of the Year at the 2022 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
In July 2022, she released her sophomore EP, My Diary, a collection that explored more personal and reflective themes. Tracks like “Something” and “Flames” with Davido highlighted her growth as an artist and her ability to connect emotionally through her music.
For Gyakie, music is not just an inheritance but a calling. With heartfelt lyrics, a soothing voice, and a global outlook, she continues to redefine Afro-fusion while carrying the warmth of Ghana to the world.
