Anele Dladla, professionally known as Dladla Mshunqisi, was born on 30 November 1990 in KwaMashu, Durban, South Africa. Growing up in one of Durban’s most vibrant townships, he developed a love for music and dance early, performing in local gatherings and learning how to captivate audiences with both voice and movement. His stage name, “Mshunqisi,” translates to “someone who brings life to the party,” perfectly reflecting his energetic presence on stage.
Dladla first gained attention with his feature on Benny Maverick’s “Memeza” (2017), which received multiple nominations, including Song of the Year at various South African awards. He achieved national fame later that year with “Omunye,” a collaboration with Distruction Boyz, which became a cultural phenomenon and was featured in the blockbuster Black Panther soundtrack.
He has released critically acclaimed projects, including Umshunqo (debut album) and Umshunqo Reloaded, as well as collaborations and singles like “Pakisha,” “Goliath,” “Samba Nabo,” and “Yini Lengaka” featuring artists such as Goldmax, DJ Tira, and Siboniso Shozi. His collaborative album Puku Puku with Beast RSA earned him Metro FM Music Awards nominations in 2026 for Best Kwaito/Gqom and Best Duo or Group.
Dladla has also won Best Gqom Album at the South African Music Awards (SAMA), cementing his influence in both Gqom and Kwaito genres. Beyond music, he is a professional chef and owner of Amathiba Catering, sharing his culinary creations on social media and earning praise for being “as skilled with a pot as he is with a mic.” He also curates the Usuku Lomshunqo Music Festival, celebrating Durban’s music culture.
Known for his ability to blend Gqom, Kwaito, and modern dance music, Dladla Mshunqisi continues to shape South Africa’s contemporary music scene, connecting communities through rhythm, energy, and creativity.
