Journey

Innocent Ujah Idibia, better known as 2Baba (and formerly 2Face Idibia), is a pioneering Nigerian singer, songwriter, record producer, and entrepreneur whose work helped lay the foundation for modern Afrobeats. Born in Jos, Plateau State, he grew up in Makurdi before moving to Enugu to study Business Administration at the Institute of Management and Technology. He eventually dropped out to focus fully on music, writing songs and recording commercial jingles for local radio in 1996. While in Enugu, he teamed up with Blackface and Faze to form Plantashun Boiz, releasing two major albums “Body and Soul,” (2000) and “Sold Out (2003),” that redefined urban Nigerian pop. After the group split in 2004, 2Baba launched his solo career with Face 2 Face, featuring the iconic hit "African Queen" (co-written with Blackface, produced by OJB Jezreel), which later appeared on the Phat Girlz soundtrack and launched him onto the global stage. He followed this success with a string of major albums, including “Grass 2 Grace,” (2006), “The Unstoppable,” (2009), “The Unstoppable International Edition,” (2010), “Away & Beyond” (2012), “The Ascension ,” (2014), “Rewind, Select, Update,”(2015), and “Warriors,” (2020). Across his discography, he melds Afropop, R&B, reggae, and hip-hop, addressing themes of love, and social justice. Beyond recording, he established Hypertek Entertainment, championed numerous humanitarian causes, and earned global recognition, including the 2005 MTV Europe Music Award for Best African Act along with multiple MOBO, Headies, and Channel O awards. Today, his legacy stands as a vital bridge between the early era of contemporary Nigerian music and its current worldwide dominance.
