Send us Fan Mail Killing a Child is Wrong, even if Commanded by God! We killin' them for freedom 'cause they tortured us for boredom. Killer Mike said that, on the Run the Jewels song "Close Your Eyes (And Count to Fuck)." It is a hard line. And it is a specific one. They tortured us for nothing. For boredom. So what we do back, we do for something. For freedom. That is the logic of justified violence. Every act of power carries a justification. The people who hold power always have a reason for what they do. The justification is how power dresses itself up as something righteous. And the question you should ask of any authority is always the same. Is the justification real, or is it just the story they tell while they do the thing? This episode is about power. Not the word. The thing. The difference between possessing a right and having the power to exercise it. The difference between an authority that is accountable and an authority that only claims to be. Governments. Churches. Political parties. None of them earn legitimacy from what they call themselves. They earn it from what they do. And we should never confuse the two. Authority is not legitimacy. That is the whole episode. Let me get into it. Intro Quote of the Week: Robert F.
