Zonke Dikana, universally known as Zonke, is one of South Africa's most respected and talented singer-songwriters and record producers. Zonke, who was born in KwaZakhele, Port Elizabeth, in October, has always been steeped in music, a passion she inherited from her family. Her sound is a sophisticated and deeply emotional fusion of Afro-soul, R&B, and house genres, delivered in both English and her native Xhosa.
Zonke's career trajectory is marked by a fierce independence; she is known for writing and producing much of her own material. After earlier independent releases, her 2011 album, Ina Ethe, propelled her to national stardom. The album achieved double platinum status and gave birth to enduring hits such as "Feelings" and "Jik'izinto", instantly establishing her signature sound and emotional connection with listeners.
Subsequent years saw continued success, with the live album Give and Take Live (2013) quickly going gold and her critically acclaimed Work of Heart (2015) also reaching platinum status. Her work often touches the soul and addresses universal human emotions, which is why people laud it.
Beyond her studio work, Zonke is a commanding live performer with a powerful stage presence. She is a multi-award winner and has been recognized as one of Africa’s top female vocalists. Her self-driven artistry and commitment to crafting authentic, quality music have made her a beloved and influential figure in South African music.
