Nyashinski, born Nyamari Ongegu on April 8, 1984, in Kisii, Kenya, is a highly respected rapper and singer celebrated for his lyrical skill and versatility. He began his career in the early 2000s as part of the hip-hop group Kleptomaniax with Robert Manyasa (Roba) and Collins Majale (Collo). Together, they released influential hits like Tuendelee and albums M4E (2005) and NITT (2009), winning several regional awards and earning international nominations, including from MTV Europe Music Awards.
In 2006, Nyashinski moved to Delaware, USA, stepping away from music for ten years. This time allowed him to gain new perspectives while working as a truck driver. Returning to Kenya in 2016, he launched his solo career with Now You Know, which became the first Kenyan rap video to reach over one million YouTube views.
Since then, he has released hits like Malaika, Mungu Pekee, Bebi Bebi, and BLACK, earning multiple accolades such as Best Legendary Artist (East Africa Arts Entertainment Awards, 2022) and Pulse Music Video Awards, as well as AFRIMA nominations. His albums include Lucky You (2020) and Yariasu (2025), with EPs Therapy (2022), Good Old Days (2024), and To Whom It May Concern (2024).
Nyashinski continues to headline major shows, including Shin City in 2022, and is preparing for his 'SHOWMAN' residency in April 2026. He is married to designer Zia Bett, with whom he has two children, and maintains a private family life while remaining a defining figure in East African music.
