Theodore Joël Bakangana, who embraces the stage name Jomiguel, is an emerging voice from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, rooted in the vibrant musical landscape of Goma. Growing up, Jomiguel was captivated by the emotive melodies of Westlife and the rhythmic prowess of Craig David and Eminem. His journey into music was unconventional; originally a b-boy in a street crew, his passion for the artform took a transformative turn when he began composing songs and teaching himself to sing and rap during his teenage years.
With Swahili, French, and English in his linguistic arsenal, Jomiguel crafts lyrics that weave through personal and collective experiences, offering both introspection and catharsis. His keen ability to blend poignant narratives with urban rhythms resulted in the 2023 release of his debut album "THÉRAPIE." This 12-track project features collaborations with local talents like Magic Pinokio, Ira Irene, and Bilam Tempo Boy, and includes standout tracks like "Je m’ennuie sans toi" and "Make It Tomorrow." Through his work, Jomiguel not only represents his cultural heritage but also champions a sound that speaks to a global audience.
