Journey
Clayrocksu, aka Clay, born Bianca Adanna Okorocha, is a Nigerian alternative rock and Afro-rock musician recognized for helping to bring a largely underground genre into wider cultural conversation. Raised in Nigeria and influenced by early church singing, Clayrocksu’s artistic direction evolved into a fusion of Igbo language, Nigerian pidgin, and punk/alternative rock elements.
Her career began gaining attention in the early 2010s with her debut single "Ogadisinma,” which earned a nomination at the Nigeria Music Video Awards. Her breakout moment came with “Dancing in the Sun,” featuring Vector, which won Best Record of the Year at the Top Naija Music Awards, positioning her as a leading voice in Nigeria’s alternative scene. Over time, she carved a niche with her electrifying live performances and vocal delivery, often backed by her band, The Misfits.
Clayrocksu’s debut album, "Road Less Travelled" (2017), introduced her genre-bending approach, while her later works expanded her reach. Her single “Amin” won Best Rock at the 2022 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), solidifying her reputation as one of Africa’s foremost rock artists. In 2024, she released her second major project, "Hate It Here," a deeply introspective body of work exploring disillusionment, identity, and emotional struggle. In 2026, she drew attention for taking music to the streets of Lagos, performing spontaneous serenades and sharing acts of kindness to uplift people during difficult times, reinforcing her belief that music can inspire connection and hope.
Beyond recordings, Clayrocksu is a cultural advocate. She is closely associated with the Afro Rockstars Collective, a community supporting rock musicians in Nigeria, and has performed at events such as Rocktoberfest and the Ake Arts and Book Festival. Her role extends beyond performance into community-building, helping sustain Nigeria’s alternative music ecosystem. Known for her fearless individuality, Clayrocksu stands as a defining figure in Nigeria’s modern rock movement. Her work continues to challenge genre boundaries while giving voice to audiences who exist outside the mainstream.
